'Better than Pearl'

The Better than Pearl series has been made using various techniques, such as, ‘reticulation’, ‘fusing’, and ‘oxidisation’.

Oxidisation occurs naturally when sterling silver comes in contact with heat, this is the black appearance of my jewellery. It is just a thin coating that with wear will wear off, underneath this blackness is sterling silver waiting for an opportunity to shine through. Oxidisation of pieces like pendants and brooches will most likely last a life time, as these generally do not come in contact with your skin, but pieces that do, like rings, will wear more quickly.

So, as many clothes come with a ‘designed to fade’ tag, my Better than Pearl range comes with a ‘designed to shine’ tag. As every piece is different you also are different, and the way you wear your jewellery is different, your black may stay for a little or a long time, the shinier it becomes the more it is ‘your’ piece.
