Nature and the history of art influence me. My work reflects this and often changes in response to what I am researching. I am most interested in how one imbues an object with meaning and the consequent relationship the object has with the body.
My intention is to explore the ‘handmade’ by creating works which are tactile, the method of construction and the presence of the hand is apparent in the finished piece.
Decorative details are a significant aspect of my work, my sources are varied and include Japanese textiles, illuminated manuscripts as well as Oceanic Art. My investigation into decorative details allows me to create a narrative within each body of work. |
