Rough charm
The ancient art of lost wax casting has been practiced for centuries but the method still offers plenty of exploration. I am drawn to handmade methods and the imperfect beauty attained through ancient jewellery techniques.
These pieces are hand constructed in wax which is invested in a plaster mould and melted away. Molten metal is then poured into the remaining space using a centuries old methodology of lost wax casting.
Precious gems in their natural unpolished forms contain an inherent beauty which I believe cannot be improved by the touch of a machine. Uncut sapphires and rubies combined with roughly hewn precious metals form the basis of my work which employs these traditional methods to produce articles of jewellery; original and unique. |
