Wayne’s
work is highly recognised and collected in numerous public collections,
more notably by the Australian National Gallery, Canberra. Among
his awards are an Australia Council Grant and a Rusden Foundation
Award. He frequently makes commissioned work ranging from specialised
awards, church commissions to boardroom centrepieces.
Wayne’s
silver objects are individually designed. Through the use of models
he carefully researches each shape, simplifying lines into sensuous
forms.
Each
piece originates as a flat sheet of silver and is deftly controlled
through hammering. Whimsical lines and surprising details in copper
give his work a fresh contemporary aesthetic combined with a level
of craftsmanship that is a rarity in our mass produced world.
Holding a spoon or a jug is seductive, the weight and balance
of each, reflects its relationship to the body and its function. |
