Romy Mittelman

The ancient practice of lost wax casting is very much alive in Romy Mittelman’s work. She loves experimenting with the wax’s texture and malleability before it is cast into silver or gold and incorporates precious stones in their raw form. Romy learnt this technique and many others while studying at NMIT before honing her skills further is a fine art degree in gold and silver smithing at RMIT. Romy has exhibited her work in renowned galleries around Australia and is now teaching gold and silver smithing at Melbourne Polytechnic.

Romy has an affinity and virtuosity with the ancient practice of lost wax casting where the technique particularly suits her process. The wax’s texture and malleability allows shaping to suit an individual design before it is cast into silver or gold to incorporate precious stones in their raw form.
